Transmission EngineeringPintsch Bamag Brakes

Hertford Controls represents Pintsch Bamag in the sale, distribution and support of electromagnetic spring-applied brakes.
A high level of experience, derived from many years of co-operation with the German manufacturer enables Hertford Controls to support it’s clients both technically and commercially.

Pintsch Bamag have been designing and producing brakes for use in ship-building, harbour cranes and industry since 1935.
From the outset, the company recognised that safety is the highest priority when heavy loads have to be moved. This principle led to design and production processes based on continual testing, inspections and quality enhancements.
Today Pintsch Bamag are recognised as the leading innovator and investor in brake technology for the 21st Century.

Electromagnetic Double-Disc Spring-Applied Brake types, KFB, EFB and SFB have been used successfully for many years in shipbuilding for winch motors and in harbour cranes as safety brakes, service brakes or holding brakes. They are installed on the non-drive end of electric motors and are particularly suited to high demand applications.

On the controls side, the BCU 2001 Brake Control Unit now offers a viable alternative to traditional monitoring components such as Microswitches or Proximity Switches.

Mode of Operation. When energised, the electromagnetic field overcomes the spring force. The brake is released, allowing free rotation of the corresponding assemblies and the motor shaft. Conversely, when the current is switched off or when there is a power failure, the electromagnetic field collapses and the springs transfer the brake effect mechanically to the motor shaft.
